Who is Mercè Rafecas?
Interior architect, furniture designer, Master’s in Lighting Design, and founder and CEO of Mercè Rafecas Interiors. For 15 years, Mercè and her team have been creating exceptional homes in Sitges, Barcelona and across el Garraf.
“For me, residential interiors go far beyond aesthetics. A home should improve your daily life, bring serenity and reflect who you are. I always start by listening, then shaping spaces around light, order and authenticity.
Living well at home means stepping out of the rush. Not going slower, but working with clarity, rigour and the right rhythm, so that a process full of decisions becomes agile, light and coherent. That’s how we work.
I grew up steeped in a visual culture rooted in the Mediterranean. It’s home. That contemporary, warm, understated sensibility shapes how we think about materials, light and function, and how we weave in technology with subtlety, always in the service of wellbeing.
My vision of interior design isn’t about ‘decorating’. It’s about creating life experiences. We look for the balance between beauty and function, emotion and tangible value, so that every home breathes calm, moves at your pace and stands the test of time.”
Mediterranean Quiet Luxury: homes that breathe light and authenticity
We design in a contemporary Mediterranean register that puts wellbeing, visual clarity and a connection with the outdoors ahead of decorative excess or gadgetry.
Just as important: every client should recognise themselves in their home. The design must reflect how you actually live, effortlessly.
Mediterranean Quiet Luxury is our everyday language. A discreet, warm luxury that raises your quality of life without ever demanding attention. Your exceptional home on Barcelona’s southern coast becomes the place you most want to be. Your private oasis.
Honest materials and textures
Natural stone, characterful timber, ceramics, lime, mineral finishes, all chosen because they age beautifully.
Biophilia and connection with nature
Courtyards, interior gardens and open views that bring green and light to the heart of the home.
Lighting that adapts to you
Balanced and flexible, shifting with the time of day and the needs of every family member.
Home-being
Your home as a sanctuary. Calm enough to truly switch off.
Subtle technology
Comfort and control, without screens and devices taking over.
A soft, luminous palette
Warm, neutral tones that amplify natural light rather than compete with it.
Fluid movement and visual order
Intuitive circulation and bespoke storage that keeps things genuinely tidy.
Locally sourced pieces
One-off items with character, texture and a story of their own.
METHODOLOGY
How we work: from concept to handover
Our five-phase methodology ensures your luxury home turns out exactly as you envision it. We take 1,001 decisions off your shoulders, maintain coherence across every space and minimise the risk of costly mistakes.
1 | Alignment Session
We sit down to understand how you live and what you value most. Together we define the essentials: function, wellbeing, aesthetic direction. Then we map out a plan with clear milestones.
Your role: tell us how you live and what matters. We handle the rest.
2 | Curated Options
We integrate with your architect to optimise the layout and guarantee coherence. Then we prepare 3D visualisations and refined proposals so you can see the outcome before committing. Every alternative is carefully selected, so decision-making becomes comfortable and manageable.
Your role: choose what feels right, without sifting through hundreds of options.
3 | Synergy with Architecture
We work alongside the architecture team and site management to keep technical and aesthetic decisions in step. We review key details and flag anything that could affect the end result, always absorbing the complexity so it doesn’t land on you.
Your role: approve key decisions through short, clear updates.
4 | Procurement & Logistics
We manage budgets, orders and timelines with trusted suppliers. Where appropriate, we prioritise noble, locally sourced materials, and maintain full traceability, including on international purchases.
Your role: sign off on major purchases, with all the information already distilled.
5 | Installation & Handover
We oversee every installation, every styling detail, every quality check. Each piece is inspected on-site so that when you open the door, the home is ready to enjoy from day one.
Your role: walk in and start living.
Working with your architect
On new builds, the partnership between architect and interior designer is essential. The architect sets the structure, proportions and relationship with the landscape. We define the internal layout, then continue refining circulation, materials, built-in furniture and lighting, turning spaces into a home that truly works.
When you find a collaborator you can work with fluidly, with shared standards and real trust, you keep coming back. Mercè Rafecas Interiors is clearly that partner for high-end architecture and interior design.
Laura Coladas
Arquitecta
Their interior design service has been key to bridging the gap between drawing and reality. It made the build far smoother and gave the client real peace of mind. Decisions were well defined, budgets transparent, and the whole process felt more ordered and less tense.

Projects that fit our studio
Not every project calls for a specialist architecture and interior design studio. Ours makes the most difference in exceptional homes where the priorities are quality, sound judgement, delegation, agility and aesthetic coherence.

Clients already celebrating a home designed to the last detail
An outstanding team: professional, attentive and a pleasure to work with. I’m delighted with both the finished result and the tradespeople they brought in. They hit every deadline, even though I kept adding to the scope, and stayed within budget, which matters enormously. I’ve already recommended them to several friends.

Frequently asked questions about our studio

Where is your studio?
In Sant Pere de Ribes (Sitges), right in the heart of el Garraf. Living and working in the territory we design for is central to our approach.
How do you avoid surprises during construction?
We plan meticulously from the outset and provide the build team with detailed drawings to follow. If something unexpected comes up, we resolve it quickly and quietly.
Can you manage procurement and installation?
Yes, everything, so you don’t need to coordinate a thing. That includes appliances, curtains, bathroom and bedroom textiles, even artwork.
What if my needs change mid-project?
There’s always room to adjust. If the change is significant, we sit down and work through it together with full transparency.
How is the fee structured?
We divide the investment into phases, with clear payments at each stage.
Can we start at the initial design phase?
Yes, and it’s the best way to ensure coherence from the outset. We work closely with your architect to shape the interiors, with particular focus on lighting, home automation, bathroom and kitchen materials, doors, the laundry, pool house, outdoor kitchen and more.
How do you coordinate suppliers and building works without involving me?
We manage suppliers, deliveries and installations directly. You choose how involved you want to be. Full delegation is absolutely an option.
How do you handle international orders and lead times?
We work with the relevant Spanish distributors, calculate realistic timelines, manage shipping and customs, and track every item through to delivery.
Who oversees installation and quality?
Our own team at Mercè Rafecas Interiors. We inspect every installation on-site to ensure the result is impeccable.
Do you take on new builds and full renovations?
Both. It’s partial renovations we prefer to avoid. Mediterranean Quiet Luxury is designed to be felt in every room. That coherence across spaces is what elevates a home to something truly exceptional.
